The Indianapolis Colts look like the team to beat this year, carrying a 3-0 record for the first time since 2009. So I asked the star power Colts super fans about the Colts, and what the improvement is from past years.
Anderson high school teacher Michael Lade is a die hard Colts fan from the decorations covering his classroom.
“The defense isn’t as good as it was in the Super Bowl year.” Lade said, when I asked him to compare the 2009 team to the current team. This year the Colts allowed 56 points in the first 3 games but the Colts in 2009 only allowed 46 points which can prove to us that the Colts defense was a powerhouse back in 2009.
Senior at Anderson high school Ajani Sanglton, is a sports super fan who loves the Colts winning and talked a little bit about their winning. Sanglton said, “ I’ll say they should get more in. They should practice more in and keep focusing in. So that way they can get themselves, where their path is going next.” Sanglton says that the Colts are a very good team; best of all, the Colts are a top 5 team in the NFL and the more practice and team bonding they have the better chance of them winning a super bowl.
The kick that happened in week two was amazing. The way the referees called the flag for the rekick was stunning, with a jaw dropping turn around to the game. So I asked Lade what he thought about the kick. “ It felt really awesome. It was so sad when he first kicked it and missed it, but then they got the rechance, and it was awesome.” Lade said. When Spencer Shrader hit the 20 yard kick to win the game. The reason that kick was special was because it was a 60 yard kick then they called a flag on the denver bronchos.
To piggy back on the week two win against the Denver Broncos, Jonathan Taylor had an outstanding game with 156 yards with 25 carries. Taylor was arguably the best AFC offense player of the week and should have won the award. I asked Sanglton what he thought about Taylor not winning AFC player of the week. “Yeah, he will. He should. Uh, he can, he has more skills and movement and anything else. So they got more things that they needed to. And make sure a flow is going on.” Sanglton said. Therefore Taylor should be AFC offense player of the week because he leads in every stat category that a running back can lead in. With that being said, he’s the number one running back in the league. The award could’ve gone to Taylor because he had the most rushing yards for that week with 165 yards.
With having two highly rated quarterbacks, one had to beat out the other for the job. “At first I really wanted Anthony Richardson to be the quarterback, but I believe in Daniel Jones. I thought he would be good. So I’m okay with it because, like, winning cures everything.” Lade said. This year with a new QB might be one of the best adjustments the Colts have made in a long time because Daniel Jones is playing better than any QB we have had since Andrew Luck. Daniel Jones is leading the league in efficiency with 79.1 percent in the first four weeks, while Luck was a better passer and scored more touchdowns then Jones, Luck still had an efficiency of 67.3 percent.
So, with the Colts being the best in their division they look like a new and improved team; they are looking in sync and people are getting their names out there because of the team’s success. At the end of the day, they look like a championship team and should be a great team for years to come.
