Students in Mr. Shumate’s wars class went paintballing in October to have fun and learn about what life was like in the trenches of World War I. The students took a field trip to White River Paintball during the school day.
In paintball if you get hit you are out completely if there are only two teams and their out you’re alive you win.
Brayden Martin says, “It is really fun sometimes it can be nerve-wracking.” Martin says the chaos is the best part of the event.
Martin used a special strategy to succeed in the paintball event. “You have an ammo canister and you load it up with little paintballs. Then you have an air canister; pull the trigger and it will shoot.” There are other strategies in paintball like getting out a plan to beat your opponent. If you need help, you can ask the staff.
Mr. Shumate even participated in the paintball event.
“Shumate did get hit with paint a lot,” Martin said.
Despite the chaos, there are still some rules to paintball.
“So basically you have a perimeter you can’t go out of and you can’t have automatic guns. You have to have a single shotgun,” Martin said.
If you break the rules, Martin says, you could be banned from paintball forever.
Martin says Mr. Shumate’s class defies his expectations.
“Shumate likes to watch movies, we go on field trips and paintball stuff,” said Martin. “I like his assignments because they are easy. They teach you a lot and get a lot of assignments and taking notes on movies.”
“I thought [the paintball trip] was going to be boring but it was actually really fun!” Martin said.
