Italy is full of history. It was the birthplace of the ancient Roman civilization we learn about. Italy is filled with such a cherished culture and beautiful scenery. In this ranking, I’ll demonstrate Italy’s best places to visit.
3. The ancient catacombs of St. Callixtus
Located in Rome, Italy, these ancient catacombs are the largest and most important in Rome. The catacombs were the official cemetery of the Church of Rome in the 3rd century AD. Around half a million Christians were buried there. Walking into the catacombs, You see the foundation of where graves used to be. It is an important piece of Roman history to visit, and the atmosphere of the catacombs is amazing.
2. The Colosseum
One of Italy’s most popular tourist attractions, the Colosseum is a well-preserved amphitheater located in Rome, Italy. The Colosseum could fit more or less 50,000 people. It is the largest amphitheater in Roman history. It was home for gladiators to fight, execute, and battle. Visiting this piece of history was one of my favorite things. You can see where people sat and where the battles had taken place. Its beautiful structure still stands today and is open to the public.
1. Pompeii/ Mt. Vesuvius
The city of Pompeii was formed on lava that had been there previously. What Pompeii is mainly known for is its active volcano, Mt. Vesuvius. On August 24th, 79 A.D., Mt. Vesuvius erupted, sending ash and lava all over the city. The ash and lava covered everything. Today, you can visit the grounds of Pompeii and look at real casts of people/animals covered in ash. The site where these casts are located has stables and looks like a battleground. Seeing this historic place that once was full of life and history was such an amazing experience.
Italy has such a lively environment when it comes to visiting. In Rome, you can see many historical places where actual events have occurred. If you’re a history junkie like me, pack your bags and go to Italy.
