Lily Coon is one of Anderson High School’s female swimmers. Her swim season just ended with sectionals. She swims many events such as the hundred back, fifty-three, the four hundred relay, and the two-hundred method relay.
Lily explains how events may be different for other people. She says, “It depends how hard you work, (for) some people it’s easier.” She further elaborates by saying, “It’s kind of based on what other sports they do, if they do any other ones”.
Lily has her own preferred events that she’s familiar with.
“I’ve done hundred [meter] back-stroke since the end of my Eighth grade year going into my Freshman year, and I’ve done free style the entire time. I’ve always done (short) sprints.” She also tried new events.
“I just recently started doing the four-hundred relay this year”.
Lily has been swimming for a long time because of her family influence.
“I’ve been doing it for like four years,” she said, “It’s really my parents started doing it and then my whole family started doing it.”
However, Lily wasn’t planning on joining the swim team at first.
“I wasn’t going to in high school but then Eddy chased me down with a picture of my dad from when he swam with him, and then I ended up swimming again”.
Her family though, was Lily’s main motive for joining.
“It was more the fact my family has done it so long so I kind of just hopped along with them”.
This sectional was also the last one for the seniors of the girls team, so it was a pretty special day for them and everyone wanted to make it fun for memorable.
“I think we’re very proud. I really think the seniors had a good final year, they had a good time. It was very emotional and everybody was very appreciative and empathetic during the entire time trying to just make it the best for the seniors”.
When asked if the Swim team will improve next year, Lily said, “Definitely. We grow every year”. Hopefully, that statement holds true and the girls team continues to do well in the future. As well as the entire Swim team.
