Teens at Anderson High School come into school feeling tired and unrested. We decided to find out if it is because of the time school starts or is it what time they go to bed. According to juniors Wura Olorunfemi and Jacob Perry, they believe that school starting at seven thirty is a good thing so teachers can use more time to teach the lessons.
According to the CDC, teens need to get about eight to ten hours of sleep, but the results are below from a poll taken on the week of April twelfth.
As you can see the students at Anderson High School aren’t getting enough sleep for various reasons like playing video games, talking on the phone, and also doing homework or having to go to work.
Also stated in an interview with Anderson High School social workers, Missy Morris and Melissa Lee, students need to wind down or be in a calm state of mind to fully is vital to get a full night of sleep, but some kids don’t have a good home life and are in a constant state of fear or angry and can’t sleep. It would be recommended to talk to a friend or a social worker and they will help in any way possible.
So after reading this, you might be wondering what can we do to help teens get better sleep. We can start social programs to help teens with mental problems or we can put child locks on phones and many other devices at a certain time which can be prolonged if they are older and have good grades.
