After three weeks of being closed, I-465 reopened on August 4. Those troubled by the closure can now use it once again. However, the reopening still comes with its flaws as the traffic as only one lane of it is open as of currently.
According to FOX59 news, I-65 and I-70 have been closed on the southeast side of Indianapolis so the crew can perform pavement repairs and bridge deck work. In addition to this, traffic was reduced to two lanes with one more lane being opened later throughout the week.
Teacher Andrew Biller commented, “I can still get to my summer job but it is taking me a little longer, I’m not sure when they’ll have it completely done and all the lanes are open.”
He goes on to comment about his growing frustrations with the increase in traffic, “I drive the highway now but instead of being able to go around people, I have to stay right behind them.”
Others have also been troubled by the closing of I-465.
Senior Jacob Perry would also go on to comment about how the interstate’s closure affected him, “Since that’s the interstate I take to go to Indy which is where my cousin lives, and because it was closed not only was there horrible traffic I literally couldn’t go see him.”
So, even if the interstate is open again there are still many problems that need to be addressed before I-456 is truly back to normal. Biller has one last comment to say about this situation: “Instead of working on the interstates so much they should work on the surface street of Indiana and fix the potholes.”
