January 20, 2025 was Inauguration Day, which every four years, serves as the day that the next president will be sworn into office. On January 20th, Donald Trump began to serve his second term as the 47th president of the United States, by swearing into office. JD Vance swore in alongside Trump as the next vice president of the United States.
Inauguration Day is a significant day in the history of the United States. Its history represents bringing about a new leader for our country. The president serves the people, representing the ideals, culture, and individuals that make the US what it is.
Inauguration Day is celebrated with strong traditions such as bringing in celebrity performers to sing national songs, host several celebratory balls, and even a military parade. This year, president Donald Trump brought country singers Carrie Underwood and Jason Aldean, opera performer Christopher Macchio, and rapper/singer Nelly to perform. Inauguration Day also offers federal employees in Washington D.C a holiday off from work.
This Inauguration Day serves the decent trait of falling on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. At noon on January 20th, 47th president Donald Trump gave his inaugural speech. The purpose of this speech was to go through and explain his goals that he has for the country as president. One point he made in his speech, which many saw as controversial, was that he would declare that only two genders, male and female, be legally acknowledged. To which he was given a standing ovation by almost everyone in the room.
He gave this inaugural speech explaining that he had big plans for the country. And he made a statement with that. Trump started his second term as president with signing the most executive orders a president ever has in his first day of office, being 36 orders exactly.
An executive order is a document which has the power of law, ordering the operations of the federal government.
One of his signed orders is a memorandum titled “Return To In-Person Work”, giving an order to congress to end all remote work jobs. He even signed a very long titled proclamation, with the purpose of pardoning all those who were criminally charged for rioting the capitol building in D.C on January 6, 2021. Another order of his signed, serves the purpose of ending birthright citizenship in the US, although this order violates traits of our 14th Constitutional Amendment.
News of Trump’s inauguration uprooted a surge of people protesting to have their wants as citizens heard. Outside the capitol even days before the inauguration, there were said to be sightings of groups The Proud Boys and Neo Nazis storming the streets. Although Trump himself has said he “condemns” the two groups, they were there in support of him for his oath into office.
