Six determined AHS students fought their way into the 2025 prom court. The boys court included Cooper King, Aaron Ramirez, and Grant Wilhoite. Lily Abbott, Ruby Lavelle, and Abbey Wright make up the girls’ court. Each candidate eager to run, had unique ways to campaign for the future royalty. Lavelle explains her method of campaigning as, “posting and making collages of myself while hanging them around the hallways.” Several members of the court ran together in hopes of a better chance of winning. Wright teamed up with Ramirez, and King with Abbott. Wilhoite and Lavelle decided to campaign independently.
Despite the tough competition, students still found the courage to run. Grant Wilhoite previously made it to the 2024 homecoming court and claims he “gained the perseverance to possibly run again.”
Abbott also felt courageous, “I ran for prom court because I won homecoming court, I was just like why not.” Abbott previously won homecoming court in 2023, along with King.
King decided to run with Abbot again, “Because we had a better chance of winning if we did.”
Ramirez decided to run for king because his friends pushed him into it, he says, “My friends told me we have to do some ‘side quests’ for high school.”
Each student had two weeks to campaign before the day of prom, where the results were revealed. The final prom court winners, Ramirez and Wright, were announced by school principal Alan Landes. Wright expressed her excitement as the new prom queen as, “Very excited and honored, I love the school so being able to win felt very surreal.” Ramirez also felt very honored. “I felt amazed, as if Manchester City won the champions league.”
Apart from the hardships of this, every student found themselves having fun. Cooper claims, “it was very eventful, lit, and hype.”
