Jensen Shryock claimed victory in the high jump at a recent indoor meet held at Madison-Grant High School on April 18. His winning leap was the result of skill and determination, as he went above the competition to secure first place. The feeling inside the venue was energetic, with Jensen’s performance inspiring cheers from the crowd and would have him feeling accomplished and proud of his new personal record that he set.
“I never could go this high,” Jensen said after setting his personal best jump of 6 ‘6″, with his previous highest at the meet before being only 6’, this was a very big improvement in just over a week. “The crowd was very supportive and cheering me on,” he said. “They started a clap for me that hyped me up enough to make the jump.” Every bit of hard work and practice had paid off in the best way possible. He felt joy as he realized all his practice and training had led to this moment.
After the competition, Jensen commented on his journey. “It’s been a lot of hard work and practice,” he said. “But every bit of it was worth it for this moment. I’m just glad I could make my family and friends proud.” He thought about all the early mornings and late nights spent training and how it all seemed worth it for this win.
Shryock’s win was not just to win, it was about the journey and the lessons learned along the way. “This experience taught me that with perseverance and belief in oneself, anything is possible,” he said. He felt a new confidence and knew that this was just the beginning of his journey to greatness.
As Jensen walked off the field, he felt a sense of accomplishment. “I know there’s still more I can achieve,” he said. “And now, I have even more motivation to keep pushing forward.” He looked forward to future meets, knowing that he had the determination and skill to continue winning and possibly setting new records.
