The Anderson High School boys soccer team is excelling and rising to the top with 55 people on all 3 teams. The squad this year has interest and a huge following which creates a stir in the fall sports community around the school.
Junior Carter Spolyar plays for the Anderson high school soccer team. Having 55 kids may be a lot for students but for Spoylar and the AHS boys soccer it is an advantage towards their winning.
“Oh, it’s a good experience seeing our depth and seeing how much we’ve grown since COVID and since we had that drop off.
Just seeing the depth again has been an amazing experience.” ,Spoylar said. The boys soccer team has a lot of people and that ties in to the depth of the team and how many people can play.
With just a couple kids the locker room can be hectic, loud, and rowdy. The locker room is where a team can bond for success and build chemistry with each other. I asked Spoylar how the locker room is with 55 kids.
“It’s actually really chill. All the guys are here for one program.
We’re here for one goal and it’s to try and bring home some hardware. So we all have the same goal that we’re striving for, so it’s good.”, Spolyar said.
The star studded soccer team is winning with the 55 players. Then Spolyar said,
“I think having all those kids actually helps boost us, because we’re more less win for all these guys now.
We’re not so much like, oh, we’re just gonna win for varsity. We want to win for the whole program. And that’s what we have been striving for.”
At 13-5 last year the team was good, but it seems like having 55 players helped boost their record to 7-1.
“I think the depths helped us last year with being able to bring up a solid number of guys to help us through varsity. And I think this year will help us even more because with having 55 guys, we were able to develop a ton of players last year, and so we’re able to bring them all up to varsity and help us have a pretty good season.” , Spolyar says.
This goes to show developing players will increase numbers, which will lead to the continued improvement of the programs winning percentage.
