Anderson High School’s Winter Guard team had their first competition of the 2024 season on January 20 at Plainfield High School. The team has put a lot of work into their show “Under Pressure” and this show was the time for the team to perform it in front of a crowd. Their performance routine includes a variety of factors including flag work, rifle work, saber work, and dance routines.
According to Rebecca Rick, a varsity member on the winter guard team, even though there are some things that they need to work on, she believes and expects the competition will go well.
The group did not end up placing but they did earn a participation award and are working on things to make the show get a better placement.
Rick says, “I think we got participation because it was an early competition and I don’t think we were all in the right mindset. I think we were all just really nervous or at least I was.”
Even though they didn’t score as high as they were hoping, they are working hard for their next competition here at Anderson High School on Saturday February 3.
According to Rick, “I think our next competition will go better, we just need to work on our timing and make sure everyone is where they need to be.” Which tells us they are going to be working hard to fix all of the “flaws” in their routine.
Most of their flaws consist of not being in time with each other which causes their routine to look messy and unorganized. The performers have worked on during practices along with some changes in their routine. The time taken to work on, fix and change these habits has improved their routine. Come out and see how they have improved at their home competition this Saturday, February 3.
