As school starts in the fall, football season is on the mind of AHS students, athletes and staff. On August 9, the football team held a scrimmage in order to get ready for the regular season and learn the play book.
Tavious Menifee is the wide receiver, running back, and the quarter back for the Indians. Menifee is proud to say that he can play any position. “It all started when my dad signed me up for flag football and I just fell in love with it right there,” Menifee said. Some of Menifee’s strengths are his leadership skills and pushing people to be the best they can be.
Menifee refused to predict how this season is going to go.
“I don’t want to jinx us and lose games this season,” he said.
This season is coach Jarrod Pennycuff’s third season as head coach of the Indians. “Right now we are really positive about this season,” Coach Pennycuff said.
Pennycuff wants his players to focus on and off the field.
“The main thing is academics,” Pennycuff said.
He likes coaching because he gets to see the young gentlemen come together and watch them grow in school. This is the first season in about 5 years where all the athletes are eligible to play football. This shows that the school of Anderson High School cares about each and every player’s academic performance.
“There is nothing easy about coaching these kids,” Pennycuff said. “It’s just fun to coach them,” Pennycuff said.
The Anderson High School boys football team has a tough season ahead of them following a 2-7 record last year. Students are hoping for a turn around for this season.
