School is supposed to be one the safest environments you’re forced into. How does it make the students feel when something intervenes with that? School shooting threats all across Indiana have been received. https://actionfund.sandyhookpromise.org/in-your-state/indiana/ has said that over the past month, 20 people have been arrested on this account. Along with that Indiana has had 52 mass shootings since 2020.
At AHS we have many kids that could be frightened of these threats. Carter Covington is an Anderson High School student, he is 14 and currently a freshman.
“It can be scary going to school daily with threats,”
These threats are affecting everyone, not just adults. Being a student during these threats can be very difficult. Students are surrounded by things telling them they are in harm. They’re still forced to be put in that situation every single day. Every weekday they attend this high school when they don’t know if they will walk out with their life or not. Anderson High School refuses to let any of that happen.
AHS has many officers, that frequent the High school to ensure safety. Officer Reed is a police officer in Anderson, Indiana and works for security at AHS. Reed claimed, “Anderson has made multiple changes to security.”
Anderson High School has recently upped security considering these threats, with more bag checks and more police officers placed strategically.
“I want my kids to feel safe,” Mr. Dillard said. Dillard is a science teacher at AHS and has two kids that go to AHS. Students, teachers, and parents all over want to feel safe and comfortable when attending school.
People are plenty scared of getting twisted up in something that wasn’t theirs to be a part of. Anderson High School has always been here to encourage us to put our best foot forward. There is concern within the subject no matter where you look. It’s the security and comfort the school brings that makes the difference. We have seen AHS put in more officers and bag checks after recent threats. AHS is here to prove to the students this is a safe and calm environment. Even in fear, the students prove nothing can tear down the family everyone has made here at Anderson High School.
