Wrestling fans will see a new group of Indians go to the mat this wrestling season. The wrestling team usually has many members, but they didn’t have much of a team. Due to the shortage, head coach Nicholas Rosenow went out and did some aggressive recruitment for the boys and girls wrestling team. Boys and girls can join and sometimes they train together and it can lead to more of a good environment for some wrestlers.
Even though some might consider wrestling a “boys sport” there have been some girls that have done pretty good already. Girl wrestler Tanisha Samuels, has an undefeated record. “The girl’s team is really good this year, I think it will be a great year moving forward.” said senior captain Jensen Shryock.
During the season, the team competes in many different matches. They face teams from other schools such as Alexandria, Daleville, and more. Matches can be tough, but they are also fun. Fans, friends, and family come to support the team. Cheering fills the gym as wrestlers step onto the mat.
Winning is great, but losing teaches lessons too. Wrestlers learn to be good sports. They respect their teammates and opponents. Coaches encourage everyone to do their best, no matter the score.
In 2024, Anderson High is excited to grow its wrestling program. More students are joining the team each year. This means more practices and matches. Coaches hope to create a strong group of wrestlers who can win tournaments.
After all, wrestling is more than just a sport. It teaches valuable life skills, helps make new friends, and keeps kids active and most importantly, to have unforgettable memories and fun.
