13% of teens use or have used drugs. Christian Crawford is not one of them and that is why he is the face of the Be The Majority campaign.
The Be The Majority campaign is a movement here in Madison County that encourages teens to not do any substances. It has been around since April 2018 and is still going strong. The campaign is run by Intersect, Inc. which is a non-profit organization in Madison County.
Christian talked about how he has previously been pressured to use drugs a few years ago but refused. He talked about how vaping was a trend and it seemed like everyone was doing it but not him.
“I find when in certain environments you’re pressured to use drugs but to almost know to overcome it and know that your principles and moral values should be what you prioritize the most,” Crawford said. Students can either be selected into the campaign or go to Intersect Inc. which is the non-profit that runs the campaign.
“I was selected, I’m not completely sure by who but I know that I was selected by staff in our school and it was just off being sociable,” Crawford said.
Drugs or alcohol affect a lot of families and can make them grow distant from each other. It can also tear friends apart if they have different views on the subject.
“I know many people that drugs or alcohol have affected, it affects them in many ways from behaviour to more of their ethic and how they work,” Crawford said.
The Be the Majority campaign goes to events around Madison County to talk to teens who are struggling with substance abuse.
“There was an event earlier where we were announced and it had multiple parts to it,” Crawford said.
