Best freestyle swimmer of Anderson High School, senior team captain Konner Mace finishes his last high school season. Mace has been swimming all four years of his high school career as well as two years in middle school. It all began as “an extra curricular to keep me busy.” Bettering himself each year drove him to continue his swimming career. Mace was one of three captains, along with juniors Zachary Skinner and Kaleb Dean.
Mace’s main swimming events were the 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle. His personal records consist of 51.9 seconds for the 100 and 23.7 seconds for the 50. The national average 100 time is 50 seconds, whereas the 50 free average is 22.5.
Mace enters every race with a “just get it over with” mindset. He often puts great pressure upon himself to be better and better, he says he expects himself to “do better than the last one.”
The soon-to-be high school graduate plans to study at BallState University, to study either business or meteorology. Although he has been swimming for many years, he has decided to put an end to his swimming career in his senior year with his last season.
Mace recommends “follow your heart” when it comes to deciding whether or not to join a swim team. He claims it is a good way to stay physically fit and be around friends at the same time. His favorite part of the entirety of his swimming career was that he had the opportunity to meet and hang out with his friends. Swimming has truly impacted Mace’s life drastically, and each season he expressed great improvement.
