On Oct. 1, the US government shut down for the first time in six years. This has caused major negative impacts towards people and how they go in their day to day life. The government has been shut down for almost four weeks.
When the government first shut down, not much changed. Many people were worried about losing their jobs, and lack of security within the United States. When the government shuts down, many government workers will have to work without being paid, including important parts of the government like law enforcement, and national security.
“Its going to affect a lot of people, as if people aren’t already angry with the government and Trump,” said Dalton Mcfaddon.
People who work government jobs, like correctional officers and firefighter are now at risk of having to work without pay and being laid off. Many people’s flights now are getting delayed, people are having to work temporary jobs till their federal job can start paying them again. Many parts of the federal government like the treasury department, health and human services have laid off thousands of their employees because they can’t manage to pay them. Making many people go home without a paying job, making them not able to afford certain things like food, and now pay for their bills.
“My biggest thing is not having my routine and not have something to do everyday,” said substitute teacher Josh Schmidt.
Recently though, the US government funded program called SNAP, also known as food stamps has run out of money. This has helped millions of people who use the program to feed themselves and their families. People from all over the United States use this program to be able to keep food on the table, while being able to pay the bills and other things. Due to this program, many Americans are at risk of going hungry, or being able to have very little food.
“I believe that people are overreacting, most that has happened is people losing their stamps, and people having to work without getting money,” said Mcfaddon.
