Hailey Buzbee was killed at 17 years old all because she met someone online. As a result, a new law called “Hailey’s Law”, is now considered to be passed soon that will restrict social media access towards people 15 years old and younger. If people who are underage attempt to get on social media they will need a parents permission. Many are hoping this law will help stop people from being kidnapped, and or lured from their home to be killed.
Hailey Buzbee was a 17 year old girl who met someone online and after a few months of chatting she ran away from home to go to the man she met, the man eventually kidnapped her and took her to Ohio where she was eventually killed there, because of this unfortunate incident many people have been pushing for a new law to come in that’ll restrict media access to avoid more people being kidnapped or groomed online.
Many teenagers, and even younger, have had some way to access social media in recent years, with their devices. This new potential law will restrict millions of people 15 and younger that will force them all to go ask their parents in some way to get access to whatever app or website they are trying to access.
“it’s a good law I mean I had access to the internet at 10 so but that also made a lot of negative and positive stuff happen so” Sophomore student Megan Donn said
With most younger teens and children being removed from social media, it will most likely be filled with teenagers over the age of 16, and adults. Leaving predators less likely to be able to target a younger audience.
