Anderson High School becomes more strict with bag checks

At Anderson High School we often have bag checks. Some of the students hate it when we do bag checks  because they have to take Chromebooks out and walk through the metal detectors. If the detector goes off, the teachers by the metal detectors will check the student’s bag. When the check procedure started, a lot of students were late to their class because of bag checks.

The school should does bag checks because it makes the school a little bit safer.

Joseph Elam walks through the metal detectors before school.

Freshman Joseph Elam said, “I kinda like bag checks because I feel safer at school when they do bag checks. If any students have anything bad at school, then the metal detectors will go off them.”

Unfortunately, the metal detectors sometimes go off even if there are no dangerous items in a student’s bag. “Yes the metal detectors have went off on me before,’’ said Elam. “They just checked my bags and I didn’t have anything and they sent me to my class.”

Elam says that bag checks will continue as long as there are safety threats.

“I feel like bag checks will never stop because of students or adults saying they are going to shoot the school. Since people are saying they are going to shoot up the school they are doing bag checks a little more than they have. I just wish people would stop saying they are going to shoot up the school because all the students in Anderson High School are just trying to come to school and get an education.”
